ASTRO SOFTWARE - SCHEDULES ALL ODIN ASTRONOMICAL OBSERVATIONS

The Astro software was originally developed over a decade ago. New features have been added during the years as new demands on observational procedures has evolved. It now contains a great number of observational modes. Delphi (Pascal compiler) linked to a Paradox database was used for the software development. A time line is produced, providing detailed pointing information at a specific orbit number (decimal).

Orbit number is used for making the scheduling more robust over time. The consequence of that is, that the observations periods will vary slightly. The orbital period is not constant over time, due to drag friction (outer atmosphere of Earth). The software produces an output file for (normally) some weeks of prescheduled observations. This pointing (in the ODIN reference frame) as a function of time is converted to ODIN specific code and uploaded to the satellite.
